Police Now appoints new Chief Executive Officer

Following an extensive recruitment process, Police Now has announced that Kurtis Christoforides has been appointed to the role of Chief Executive Officer effective 1st October 2022.

Kurtis’s appointment follows a rigorous and highly competitive recruitment process, which saw him unanimously approved by the Board of Trustees on Thursday 11th August 2022 as Police Now’s future CEO.

Kurtis has been a significant and formative part of Police Now since its inception in 2014. He is an outstanding leader, and most importantly is passionate about driving change and continuing to deliver Police Now’s mission: to transform communities, reduce crime and anti-social behaviour, and increase the public’s confidence in the police service by recruiting, developing and inspiring outstanding and diverse individuals to be leaders in society and on the policing frontline.

On appointment, incoming CEO Kurtis Christoforides, said: “I am delighted to be appointed Chief Executive Officer of Police Now, an organisation in which I have believed, and to which I have been committed, for nearly a decade.

“I look forward to working with colleagues at Police Now, in policing, and more broadly to recruit brilliant and diverse individuals, to train them to the best of our ability, and to deploy them into police forces where they can make the biggest positive difference to the public and to their hard-working fellow police officers and police staff, and develop new experience and skills in one of the best jobs in the world.

“British policing has recently experienced a series of challenging years, but I am convinced that by continuing to recruit good people who possess the highest levels of integrity, giving them and the existing workforce the right recognition and support, and striving always to secure the confidence of, and legitimacy in, every community in the country, its most successful years lie ahead.

“I would like to thank Police Now’s Chief Operating Officer Joni Ferns for performing the role of Acting Chief Executive Officer since the beginning of the year; she has done the most remarkable job and is an inspiring act to follow.”

Prior to joining Police Now, Kurtis served in the Metropolitan Police Service and brings vast frontline experience to the organisation.

Police Now’s Chief Operating Officer, Joni Ferns, has been Acting Chief Executive Officer since January 2022 and will remain in post throughout the leadership transition before reverting to her role as Police Now’s Chief Operating Officer.

The recruitment process was led by Police Now’s Chair, Sir Ian Powell and the Board’s Nominations Committee, with support from a specialist executive search partner.

Speaking about the appointment, Sir Ian Powell said: “I am delighted that Kurtis is to be the next CEO of Police Now and look forward to seeing him take the organisation from strength to strength. His vision and leadership is centred on our mission and on supporting the entire organisation.”

Police Now is preparing to welcome the eighth cohort of National Graduate Leadership Programme participants to their academy in September, where Kurtis will continue to play a vital role in his current capacity as Programmes Director.
