Canal & River Trust
Chair
We’re the charity who look after and bring to life 2,000 miles of waterways, because we believe that life is better by water.
Our story as a charity is rooted in the history of the waterways themselves. The Trust was launched in 2012, taking over the guardianship of British Waterways’ canals, rivers, reservoirs and docks in England and Wales.
We work with volunteers and communities across England and Wales to transform canals and rivers into spaces where local people want to spend time and feel better. We know this will bring wellbeing opportunities to millions.
As our current Chair approaches the end of their board term, we are now seeking a committed new Chair to take up the helm. This person will bring strong business and financial acumen, a sound understanding of good governance, and an ability to steer through complex strategic challenges. They will be politically astute, and bring an authentic interest in the issues the Trust seeks to address/represent. Importantly, they will be empowering of Board colleagues, and lead with the Trust’s values and integrity, common sense, and diplomacy.
Canal and River Trust recognises the enormous benefits of diverse leadership, and an inclusive Board representative of the many communities we work with. We actively and warmly encourage applications from a wide range of backgrounds.
