Highgate School & London Academy of Excellence Tottenham
Community Partnerships Director
Highgate has the following charitable objectives:
- The advancement of education by the provision of a school in or near Highgate, the provision of incidental or ancillary educational activities and the undertaking of associated activities for the benefit of the public; and
- In so far as the Governors think fit (and so long as they, in their discretion, consider that the object stated in Clause 1 is being properly provided for) the relief of the poor.
The Community Partnerships Director is responsible for the activity which emerges from the objectives above in respect of educational activities for the benefit of the public and the relief of the poor; in recent years, this has, beyond the provision of means-tested bursaries, taken the form of partnership teaching (a wide range of different teaching provided by Highgate teachers in partnership schools) and of voluntary work undertaken by pupils, both of which are prominent in the School’s Development Plan. S/he line-manages the Partnership Teaching Co-ordinator (and, through them, the Chrysalis Fellows), the Director of Pupil Volunteering and Community Engagement (DPVCE), the Chrysalis Project Officer and the members of staff in the Pre-Prep and Junior Schools with designated partnership responsibilities.
THE ROLE
The current post-holder is moving on to a new role at a social mobility charity after seven years of significant achievement at Highgate. We now wish to appoint an inspiring and versatile leader to build on the success of the School’s successful partnership teaching programme and to further develop the School’s charitable and community activity. Candidates are likely to hold or have held significant middle management responsibility either in a school or in the voluntary sector, and to be able project managers in their field. Applications from colleagues in the state and independent sectors are welcome, as well as candidates from outside teaching with a proven record in the voluntary sector.
The successful candidate will become an Assistant Head and member of the Senior Team in the Senior School. S/he will be responsible for his/her work to Deputy Head (Academic) for partnership teaching but will be answerable for voluntary work and the whole School’s charitable activity (other than bursaries) to the Senior Deputy Head (s) and, through them, to the Head. S/he will sit on the Governors’ Development and Charity Executive, sharing responsibility for this committee with the School’s Development Director. The Community Partnerships Director will be expected to assist Governors and the Head in developing and delivering the School’s overall charitable vision.
