Design Council

Chair

Job Reference PADBD
Closing Date Monday 21 Feb 2022

Design Council’s purpose is to make life better by design. As a charity and the government’s advisor on design, the Design Council’s new mission is to do that by focusing on Design for Planet – galvanising and supporting the UK’s 1.69 million-strong design community to address the climate emergency. The biggest challenge of the era is the climate crisis; design has a critical role to play given the need to re-design nearly every aspect of how we live our lives.

The Design Council commissions pioneering research, develops ground-breaking programmes and influences policy to demonstrate the power of design. They bring together non-designers and designers – from grassroots to government – and share design expertise to transform the way they work.

The current Chair, Terry Tyrrell, is stepping down after two successful terms in post and the Board is now seeking excellent candidates for the role of his successor. The Chair will be responsible for the strategic leadership of the Board, for upholding high standards of governance and crucially, will act as an advocate for the organisation strengthening relationships across the sector and with government. The successful candidate will be an experienced Chair with a demonstrable interest in design, significant leadership experience, solid networks in areas of benefit to the organisation and a strong alignment with the vision, values and mission of the Design Council.
