Winner of the 2019 TES Independent School of the Year award, the Bolton School Foundation is a large and thriving independent day school which educates girls and boys for the whole of their academic journey, up to the end of Sixth Form. Set on a stunning 32-acre campus, a mile or so out of the town centre of Bolton, Bolton School’s catchment area covers a large part of the North West, enjoying equally good access to the city life of Manchester and the Lancashire countryside. This appointment is an important stage in the next steps for the Foundation, as it seeks to appoint a Head who will be able to give visible, enabling and inspiring leadership to a large senior school, nurturing and developing pupils and colleagues alike, whilst also being part of the Senior Officer team with a long-term strategic vision for the whole Foundation.

Reporting into the Head of Foundation, Philip Britton, the Head of the Girls’ Division will provide the leadership and management that will enable the school to offer its pupils the highest possible quality and breadth of education, whilst promoting exceptional standards of achievement, care and welfare amongst the school’s pupils and staff. In collaboration with the Head of Foundation, Clerk and Treasurer and the Head of Primary Division and Head of Boys’ Division, the Head of Girls’ Division will also play a crucial part in the formulation and implementation of whole school strategy, policies and guiding principles. This will be through membership of the Governors’ Executive Committee and attendance at meetings of the Governing Body.

The Governors of the Bolton Foundation are looking to appoint a dynamic, innovative and collaborative Head of Girls’ Division who will lead the school effectively into the next stage of its journey. With the help of an experienced senior team, the incoming Head will provide strategic vision and leadership in order to build on the school’s longstanding reputation for educational excellence. The new Head will have the opportunity to make a significant contribution to the future of the school whilst promoting and maintaining its historic traditions. This person will be an ambassador and advocate for the school, with strong personal credibility and a commitment to the school’s ethos and values.
